Language Classes at KPMP - Frequently Asked Questions

In which different languages are classes going to be available?
Dependent on there being sufficient demand in your location for a particular language at a particular starting proficiency level, we can offer classes in: French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
How will my starting level in my chosen language be assessed?
You can either drop in for an assessment at one of our KPMG office open days (dates to be announced, depending on demand, for weeks commencing 23 and 30 March), or arrange for your assessment to take place by means of a short telephone call. We will then determine your starting level as either: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, or Advanced.
How do the classes work?
The classes are based on weekly group lessons lasting 90 minutes each for the duration of a 10 week term. A minimum of 5 people are needed to form a class at the advertised cost.
On which language skills are the lessons focused?
Lessons are primarily focused on speaking and listening skills. However, any requests for specific course content will be taken into account by the tutor.
Will I be given any home study assignments?
You can expect to receive about 1 hour home study per week. This should be completed before the next lesson.
How quickly will I progress?
The progression rate will vary from student to student but is largely dependent on attendance, motivation and completion of home study assignments. Regular contact with the target language will also significantly increase progress. You’ll be tested at the end of term and informed of your closing proficiency level.
What about formal qualifications?
Studying for a formal qualification (with the RSA Exam Board), whilst possible, would entail additional costs and study time. Class members would need to agree at the outset to direct their group’s syllabus towards an exam programme.
Will I be given the opportunity to re-enrol?
Enrolment is on a term-by-term basis, and all students will be given the opportunity to re-enrol for the next term of their chosen language. Forms will automatically be forwarded shortly before the end of the current term.
When do classes start?
The first term available will be Spring Term (runs from week commencing 20 April through to week commencing 22 June).
Where and when do the classes take place?
The classes will take place at your offices at KPMG, from 17:30 to 19:00, on the working week day chosen by group consensus. You will be notified of the room details for the term’s lessons prior to the first lesson.
Can we reschedule group classes?
Group classes are advertised as fixed time lessons and with this in mind we are unable to reschedule lessons. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. illness of a tutor) it may be necessary for us to alter a lesson time. but only after consultation with the group concerned.
Who are the tutors?
They are all qualified native speakers with a minimum of 3 years experience teaching adults.
Will I be asked for feedback at the end of the term?
Yes, we welcome your feedback on the terms and your thoughts and suggestions for the future. Feedback is extremely important for maintaining our high standards of tuition and ensuring that we are meeting the needs of the students. Feedback forms will be forwarded shortly before the end of the term for completion.
I'm interested - What do I need to do?
In the first instance, simply complete the expression-of-interest questionnaire (does not constitute any commitment on your part).
What happens after that?
The questionnaire will tell us who is interested in which languages in which locations; we will then get in touch with everyone to arrange their free proficiency level assessment. Once we’ve completed all the assessments, we’ll confirm to everyone whether we have the required number to form their chosen class.
When and how do I pay for the course?

COST
Based on there being 5 or more people in a class, the cost will be £135 inc Vat for a 10 week term for Spanish, French, German and Italian, £140 inc Vat for Portuguese and £150 inc Vat for Russian and Mandarin.
